Timing is the urgent point: a defamation claim must generally be brought within one year of first publication under s. 4A of the Limitation Act 1980, and the single publication rule means reposting does not restart the clock.
Section 1 of the Defamation Act 2013 requires serious harm to reputation. The geographic breadth of the Yorkshire group is directly relevant here — a post reaching the whole county rather than one town speaks to the extent of publication.
Article 17 of the UK GDPR provides a separate erasure right directed at the platform, without the one-year limit and without requiring the content to be false.
